When Asus sets their minds to something, they can deliver some groundbreaking products. The world’s thinnest, the world’s fastest, the world’s first ever, etc. They just love garnering attention for innovation and design. Laptops is their specialty and do we ever have something here with the GX501 gaming laptop.

You know when you see those luxury cars on the road? Yes, the ones most of us dream about owning. Well the Asus GX501 is not priced for the faint of heart. This kind of innovation and hardware is top of the food chain and the price reflects that. However, like luxury cars, there is always a market for people who simply want the best. They want to dazzle and they simply want to enjoy.

Pre orders start June 27th

Price is…. $3,499. See? Not cheap but you are getting a revolutionary gaming laptop.

Model Number: GX501VI-XS74

Canadian Retailers: BestBuy.Ca, Canada Computers, Memory Express, NCIX, and Newegg.ca

Asus has said there is another configuration, the GX501VS (GX501VS-XS71) which has a 256GB SSD and GTX 1070 which will come a month or two afterwards. Are you can guess, it’s going to be cheaper although no price was announced for the Canadian market. Although Asus mentioned the US for the GX501VS, we are making the assumption that Canada will also be getting the slightly cheaper model. The GX501VS (GX501VS-XS71) is about $400 USD dollars cheaper when looking at the official US pricing.

The Asus Zephyrus is the thinnest laptop in the world with a GeForce GX 1080 inside. Some interesting technology was implemented and is very much revolutionary. Heat from gaming can reek havoc on a laptop chassis and to think you can get a laptop this thin with all that gaming prowess is quite remarkable.

What makes this Asus ROG laptop special? Thinness. This is dubbed as the world’s thinnest laptop with a GTX 1080 inside. Part of what makes this revolutionary design possible is the Nvidia Max-Q design technology. This is ground breaking design technology and the Asus Zephyrus GX501 could be considered the flagship device to demonstrate what’s possible. Max-Q technology is a bit more in-depth that what I want to cover here but just keep in mind that it’s going to be integrated into a lot of gaming laptops in the future.

With the GPU power inside the Zephyrus GX501, Asus needed to employ a revolutionary new design. Essentially what happens is that when you open the lid of the laptop, a 6mm space opens up along the bottom of the laptop. Asus calls this the Active Aerodynamic System (AAS).

Asus also moved the keyboard to the bottom of the laptop to occupy the space where normally there is a trackpad and palm rests to allow for better ventilation. The trackpad is shifted to the right side of the GX501 which can double as a numpad with the click of a button.

The ROG Zephyrus GX501 has a 15.6-inch display running at 1920 x 1080 resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate thanks to the Nvidia G-Sync technology. In simple terms, you will get 120FPS out of the GX501 with no tearing because the display refresh rate will be synchronized with the GPU refresh rate. They work in perfect unison thanks to Nvidia G-Sync technology.

That link to Amazon has a ridiculous inflated price of $4,200 for something that should retail for $3,500. I’ll wait for preorders on June 27th.
