Update July 31, 2022: we have news about the new Zenfone 9 and it’s exciting!
The ASUS ZenFone series didn’t end up in Canada last year. The new ZenFone 8 series however looks to be headed to Canada and the US markets which missed out on the ZenFone 7 all together. We have every detail of these interesting and fully packed phones that are worth your consideration.
The ZenFone 8 comes smaller this year at 5.92-inches and without a flip camera module. Instead the ZenFone 8 comes with the punch hole in the display. The larger ZenFone 8 Flip has the innovative flip camera and the larger size that is preferred by some. Early indicators from ASUS suggest the ZenFone 8 and not the ZenFone 8 Flip will be available in Canada and the US.
The ZenFone 8 is jam packed with the latest and greatest technology. It even has a headphone jack port! This phone is small but it’s not much different than the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 mini is smaller than the ZenFone 8.
Compatibility with Canadian mobile networks is still not known, although we believe it will be fine with LTE and sub-6GHz 5G networks. Previous ASUS unlocked mobile phones have had excellent compatibility and expect the same from the ZenFone 8.
We don’t have official pricing just yet, but your first opportunity will likely come via ordering from the US. Sources indicate that the ZenFone 8 will cost somewhere between $599 and $799. ASUS will likely consider the pricing of the Google Pixel offerings, as well as the Apple offerings. ASUS will have to be quite aggressive when it comes to price in order to steer consumers away from the better known brands. ASUS has been at the mobile phone game for a while now and they should know by now that price will make or break their ability to gain traction in North America. With Google seemingly dropping prices, it puts a lot of pressure on ASUS to come in cheaper even with the robust technology inside the ZenFone 8.
Wondering about the ZenFone 8 Flip? Don’t expect this in Canada of the US. Early reports indicate only the ZenFone 8 will be making it here which may upset some. For all intents and purposes the ZenFone 8 Flip is an updates ZenFone 7, but at a higher price. You can still seek out a ZenFone 7 via eBay and other online stores but of course there is the warranty issue and network compatibility hurdles to overcome.
Where will you be able to buy the ZenFone 8 in Canada? Years past, the well-known PC stores like Canada Computers have sold ZenFone models. Amazon and Best Buy also have been reliable sources to buy the ASUS ZenFone series. We expect the same retailers to be selling the ZenFone 8 in Canada as well.
