Rockstar Games and Take Two hinted at a new IP but instead announce Red Dead Redemption 2

As good as Rockstar games is, they can be equally as frustrating. Take-Two Interactive have said many times over the years that they want to release new IP games. Most industry experts believed that Rockstar Games was set to announce a new IP.

So we waited, and then we waited some more. With the Fall 2017 announcement for Red Dead Redemption 2, it appears we will all be waiting 4 years for something truly new. To be clear, we are talking about their next big game franchise release after Red Dead Redemption 2.

If you are like me and think Rockstar Games is the greatest video game developer ever and you also wanted something new from them, then you are likely feeling a bit irritated like me. This frustration is largely due to the lengthy time between releases. It’s understandable because why does Rockstar Games want to reduce the focus away from their current IP?

So with GTA 5, we’re at 3 years now. When Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out, that will make 4 years between releases. The timeline has not been an issue because a game like GTA 5 is so majestic and the addition of GTA Online makes the game live almost forever. It’s not their fault they can make games that will provide revenues for years and years and years.

But if you’re like me and really wanted a completely new game and story from Rockstar Games then you can’t help but be disappointed. Nothing is written in stone and there is nothing suggesting that RDR 2 is going to be the only game they release for the next 4 or 5 years. However, when you look at their history and tendencies, there is not a reason for optimism if you’re hoping for two Rockstar games coming out within 2 or even 3 years of one another.

If you aren’t into the setting of Red Dead Redemption 2, then I suppose you will need to fill your curiosity with the other offerings out there.
